  • July 31 2012 – I am awarded the ARRL Technical Innovation award for 2012 for my Codec 2 work. Ham radio was how I started out in communications and electronics as a 13 year old in the late 1970’s, so it’s wonderful to be able to contribute back to the hobby. Quite an honor, thank you ARRL.

  • March 2012, the story of busting my daughters party with a Fluksometer goes viral all over the world. It was featured in many online newspapers, and countless blogs. For a while Googling “teenage party busted” was all about us for the first 4 pages. Finally our local newspaper picked up the story. I think it went around the world in an easterly direction to end up back in Adelaide.

  • January 2012, linux.conf.au (LCA) 2011 in Ballarat. My Codec 2 talk was voted best of the conference (video)! Read all about this fine conference here.

  • November 2011, I was interviewed by the ABC Radio National Future Tense program on the Dili Village Telco. Download the podcast here.

  • September 2011, I gave a Codec 2 talk at the ARRL/TAPR Digital Communications Conference in Baltimore (video). I also had the honor of being the speaker at the conference dinner where I spoke on the Dili VIllage Telco (video).

  • September 2011, Rowetel and Fongtil are ISIF award winners for 2011, for our work on the the Dili Village Telco. Here is the ISIF press release with a picture of Lemi from Fongtil accepting the award. Here is a blog post describing my feelings on the award and reflections on what we achieved with the project.

  • March 2011, Codec 2 article on the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) weekly broadcast.

  • January 2011, linux.conf.au (LCA) 2011 in Brisbane. I co-presented with Lemi Soares on the Dili Village Telco. Here are our slides in Open Office and PDF format, and here is the video.
