The battle with the Mesh Potato boot loader has been fought and won! After a few days rest I now feel ready to tackle bringing up Linux.

Tools for embedded machines with megabytes available still behave too much like tools for an 8051. :-\ There really is a serious lack of tolerance and user friendliness, that wastes a lot of engineering time.
